The second federal execution in almost two decades took place on July 16, 2020, just days after Daniel Lewis Lee was injected with a lethal dose of pentobarbital. Wesley Ira Purkey was convicted for the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in 2003, and was declared dead just after 8 a.m. at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana.
