PM visits Ladakh amid India-China tensions
Indian PM Narendra Modi arrived in Ladakh amid flaring border tensions with China. PM Modi has been accompanied to Ladakh by the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief Gen MM Naravane.
In the surprise move, Modi visited a forward position in the Nimu sector. The position is located at 11,000 feet (3.35 km). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was scheduled to visit Ladakh, but that visit was rescheduled.
This comes even as Indian and Chinese military talks have shown no clear sign of disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which remains extremely tense after a violent face off in June left 20 soldiers dead on the Indian side and an unconfirmed number on the Chinese side.
