Our Kim Jae-hee takes us to the scene.
The first hydrogen mobility exhibition in the world kicked off on Wednesday at Kintex in Goyang city, northwest of Seoul.
Hosted by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, the exhibition aims to promote the hydrogen industry as a future national growth engine.
"Over 11 countries around the world and 108 businesses and institutions are taking part in the event. This exhibition is the first of its kind in the world."
"Leading companies in the field, including Hyundai Motor Group, Doosan Mobility Innovation, and Kolon Industries, are showcasing their latest hydrogen mobility-related products."
"Hyundai became the first automaker in the world to begin mass production of hydrogen-cell vehicles in 2013. With our latest hydrogen-powered truck on display, we hope to see expanded use of hydrogen in the future, like in planes, ships or trains."
The three-day exhibition was opened by the Prime Minister, who vowed to foster hydrogen vehicles and other related businesses.
"The hydrogen industry is a new growth engine for the South Korean economy. It's also the backbone of the Korean version of the 'green New Deal'. The shift to the hydrogen-led economy from the fossil fuel-led economy is not an option. It's a must."
The Prime Minister added the government will foster one thousand hydrogen-related firms by 2040, and expand the commercialization of hydrogen-powered cars, trucks and buses.
