The remains of scores of South Korean troops killed during the Korean War are coming home from Hawaii on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the war.
One-hundred-47 sets of remains were handed over to South Korea from the U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
They were recovered during joint excavations by Pyeongyang and Washington in the 1990s and had been repatriated to the U.S. and that was agreed upon during the first Kim-Trump summit in Singapore in 2018.
After joint forensic reviews, both South Korea and the U.S. identified the remains as those of South Korean troops.
The remains will arrive back home late Wednesday afternoon.
Carried on a KC-330 aerial tanker,... six Air Force fighters will be mobilized to provide air cover when the aircraft enters Korea's airspace, in honor of the fallen soldiers.
