문 대통령 "3차추경 6월통과 무산돼선 안돼"
President Moon Jae-in has urged lawmakers to swiftly pass the government's third extra budget proposal stressing that it must be done this month.
According to the Blue House on Sunday, the president said that a delay in passing it will only increase the burden on the people.
"There are more than 3-point-9 million people who can get support to overcome this emergency through the supplementary budget. I believe the National Assembly will not turn a blind eye to the urgent situation. Timing is key. A delay of one day means another day of suffering for 3-point-9 million people."
In early June, the government submitted an extra budget bill, worth roughly 30 billion U.S. dollars, to help cushion the economic fallout from COVID-19.
But the National Assembly has yet to start deliberations with rival parties still at odds over the distribution of posts on parliament's standing committees.
The government has rolled out a series of emergency measures to help companies maintain jobs, support key industries, and to provide financial support to the self-employed and other vulnerable people, which will be funded in part by the extra budget.
