Colonial-era statues are toppled and damaged in global Black Lives Matter protests

The Black Lives Matter movement has been revived, following the death of African-American George Floyd in US police custody on May 25, 2020. After it spread across the US, anti-racism protests have been taking place in cities around the world. The protests triggered a new push to target and remove statues commemorating colonial pasts and monuments that reinforce racism. In the UK, US and Belgium, urban monuments have come down and been vandalised.
