An injured python suffering with an infestation of huge ticks was rescued after it was found by a kindhearted pedestrian.

Khun Toei noticed the poor reptile laying nearly dead by the street side while he was walking back home in Hat Yai, southern Thailand on June 2.

He was trying to usher it out of the lane, when he saw it bloodied all over from tick bites that were still dangling on its skin. Toei said it cannot move for an hour, so he decided to call the rescuers for help.

Footage shows the emergency respondents attending to the harmed python. They took it out of the bushes while using a knife to pick the biting ticks out of its skin.

Rescuers said the snake was weak because it lost too much blood from the parasitic insects.

Toe said: "I pitied the injured snake a lot but I didn't know how to help it. Calling the rescuers was the best solution, I think."

The wildlife handlers said that the pedestrian did the right thing by calling them instead of handling it by himself.

One of the reptile handlers said: "Even if it appeared weak because of its injuries, the python still has its natural instincts when being handled by humans."

All ticks on the python's body were ripped out before it was released back into the wild away from people.
