The use of face masks has been widely recommended by health experts, governments, and authorities, and continues to be mandatory in public spaces in various parts of the world, including India, to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The World Health Organisation also changed its stand recently and has recommended wider use of face masks. Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the use of face masks was rather controversial. While some advocated its use, others believed that is was useful only for symptomatic people. However, in the recent guidelines issued by the WHO on Friday, people aged 60 years and above, and those with underlying conditions have been recommended to wear a face mask in situations where physical distancing is not possible. The new guidelines also advice use of medical masks for all people who are working in clinical areas of health facilities in areas with the widespread transmission, and not only healthcare workers who deal with COVID-19 patients, Xinhua reported.

पूरी दुनिया में कोरोना वायरस से हाहाकार मचा हुआ है। इस महामारी से बचाव और इसके प्रसार को रोकने के लिए विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन शुरू से ही दिशा निर्देश जारी करते आ रहा है। डब्ल्यूएचओ ने अब मास्क पहनने संबंधी नए दिशानिर्देश जारी किए हैं। डब्ल्यूएचओ के अनुसार मास्क पहनने की जरूरत उन जगहों पर ही है जहां पर सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग के नियमों का पालन नहीं किया जा सकता। आइए जानते है डब्ल्यूएचओ के नए दिशा निर्देश के बारे में। वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य एजेंसी की नई गाइडलाइंस में कहा गया है कि लोगों को उन जगहों पर मास्क पहनना चाहिए जहां पर सोशल डिस्टेंसिंग के नियमों का पालन नहीं किया जा सकता। नए दिशानिर्देश में जानकारी दी गई है कि फेस मास्क किन लोगों को पहनने चाहिए, किन परिस्थितियों में पहने जाने चाहिए और इनकी बनावट या सामग्री क्या होनी चाहिए। गौरतलब है कि मास्क पहनने संबंधी दिशानिर्देशों को लेकर डब्ल्यूएचओ की आलोचना हुई है। कहा गया कि मास्क न लगाने संबंधी डब्ल्यूएचओ के दिशानिर्देशों की वजह से कोरोना दुनिया भर में तेजी के साथ फैला।
