कोविड-19 की महामारी ने ब्रिटेन के शाही घराने से लेकर भारत में ठेले पर सब्ज़ी बेचने वाले तक को अपना शिकार बनाया है. जिस पर भी इसका दांव चला उसी को लपेटे में ले लिया. लोग कहते हैं कि कोरोना वायरस किसी की जाति, धर्म या लिंग देखकर थोड़ी वार करता है. लेकिन, अब तक के आंकड़े इस दावे को ग़लत ठहरा रहे हैं. नया कोरोना वायरस अपना शिकार बनाने में भेदभाव कर रहा है. कोविड-19 की महामारी मर्दों और औरतों पर अलग-अलग तरह से प्रभाव डाल रही है. इस वायरस का पुरुषों और महिलाओं की सेहत ही नहीं, बल्कि माली हालत पर भी अलग अलग असर दिख रहा है. कोविड-19 की मृत्यु दर देखकर ही अंदाज़ा हो जाएगा कि ये वायरस लिंग भेद कर रहा है. मिसाल के लिए अमेरिका में कोविड-19 से मरने वाली महिलाओं की तुलना में पुरुषों की संख्या दो गुना है. इसी तरह पूरे पश्चिमी यूरोप में कोविड-19 से मरने वाले 69 फ़ीसद सिर्फ़ पुरुष हैं. चीन या कोरोना का प्रकोप झेलने वाले अन्य किसी देश में भी यही स्थिति है.
