A new study released shows that an educational program designed to teach pregnant women about birth options doesn't work.
In the study, women who have had babies via C-sections were educated about having future children vaginally.
The research evaluated the effectiveness of an app that acted as a "decision tool" on a handheld tablet.
According to UPI, the app promotes the safety of vaginal birth after cesarean, or VBAC.
Approximately 43% of women who used the tool chose VBAC, which is slightly less than those who didn't use the tool.
32% of all births in the U.S. in 2018 were C-sections, up from 21% in 1996.
Women who have C-sections are at increased risk of infection and other complications.
