Elephants fitted with tracking collars to reduce human-wildlife conflict in southern India

Footage shows an elephant being fixed with a radio collar to track its movement in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

The fitting took place in Virajpet of Kodagu district on May 7.

Forest officials will be able to track the real-time movement and location of elephant herds in Kodagu.

According to local media, the GPS-enabled collars will potentially reduce human-elephant conflict, after damage caused by elephant attacks was being reported.
