Lawmakers with the ruling Democratic Party have elected a new floor leader to take charge of their massive new 180-seat majority in the National Assembly.
That's Kim Tae-nyeon, a four-term lawmaker, who won a three-way race against former Blue House Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs... Jeon Hae-cheol ... and four-term lawmaker Jung Sung-ho .
Kim won 82 votes from the 163 lawmakers present.
He replaces outgoing floor leader Lee In-young.
In his acceptance speech, Kim promised to do his best to listen to his fellow party members and work to help Korea overcome the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The new floor leader is tasked with making the Moon administration's fourth year a success and achieving a breakthrough in legislative affairs.
His counterpart from the main opposition United Future Party will be elected Friday.
