With the federal government reportedly predicting that coronavirus deaths will rise in the coming weeks Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the FDA, tells TODAY: “We’ve reached a plateau, but we haven’t seen the kind of declines we were expecting to see at this point, and as we reopen the country, cases are likely to go up, not down.” He says social distancing did help the health system not get overwhelmed, but “we’ve really been at a plateau for about 30 days.” He adds: “This may be the new normal.”
