오늘부터 생활 속 거리두기..."처음 가는 길 간다" 국민 협조 당부

Our top story this morning.
With South Korea successfully flattening the curve on the COVID-19 outbreak,... South Korea begins its 'everyday life quarantine scheme' from this Wednesday.
While this does mean an easing of the social distancing campaign,... health officials say the public should still be sensible, take the necessary precautions, keep wearing face masks and wash their hands regularly.
Lee Seung-jae reports.
With the strict social distancing campaign coming to an end Tuesday,... South Korea begins its 'everyday life quarantine scheme' starting Wednesday.
This means various public institutions that were once closed,... will re-open,... and events and gatherings will be permitted.
However,... health officials stress it does not mean returning to your normal everyday life or that COVID-19 is over.
Instead,... it means continuing to wash your hands, covering your coughs or sneezes with your sleeves, wearing a face mask,... and maintaining proper distance outside.
"Everyday life quarantine guarantees social and economic activities, but in the end, it's up to each individual and society as a whole to be responsible for self-prevention."
The government estimates that over a span of six weeks,... the number of daily confirmed cases has decreased to the single digits through strict social distancing measures.
In fact,... when that measure first began in mid-March,... the number of new confirmed cases was in the double digits,... from about a hundred a day to 90,... and in the thirties during the second phase.
During the third and final phase,... it dropped to single digit infections a day.
In a bid to continue the trend of little to no local infection numbers,... health authorities are urging citizens to continue practicing such measures.
"Everyday life quarantine is the first path we took, and the path we must take."
Health authorities say that, if a second outbreak occurs,... the country will return to strict social distancing measures at any time.
