Researchers say particles of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 can live up to three days on plastic and steel surfaces.
And New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that's a concern for the New York City's public transport system.
The lifespan of the virus poses a health threat to the city's public transportation workers and passengers alike.
That's because essential employees rely on the buses and trains despite the "pause" order.
According to Business Insider, New York City's Metropolitan Transit Association has been hit hard in the last two months.
The agency has reportedly lost 84 employees to the virus and passenger counts dropped 93% since the beginning of the global pandemic.
