WHO "코로나19 관련, 미국에 감춘 것 없다"
In an apparent response to U.S. President Donald Trump's continued criticism of the World Health Organization,... the head of the global health body claims nothing has.. or is being hidden from the U.S., or any other country.
Such remarks come as the Trump administration last week decided to suspend U.S. funding to the WHO, accusing the organization of covering up the spread of COVID-19 after the virus first emerged in China.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
The head of the World Health Organization said during a video press conference on Monday that there is nothing hidden from the United States regarding its coronavirus response,... adding that American experts have been a crucial part of the organization's efforts.
"But at the same time, having CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) staff means there is nothing hidden from the U.S., from day one, because these are Americans working with us and just comes naturally and they just tell what they're doing, and for WHO, it's open, we don't hide anything, it's open; not only for CDC, them sending messages or others, we want all countries to get the same message immediately."
Such comments seems to be aimed at President Trump,... who has lashed out against the organization for its "severe mismanagement" of the global response to the coronavirus.
Accusing the WHO of covering up information to paper over China’s inability to contain the virus,... Trump decided to suspend Washington's funding last week.
WHO chief Dr. Tedros also said that over the next four months,... the organization will ship nearly 30 million test kits and 180 million surgical masks to countries with weak public health systems.
The director-general added that over 1-hundred countries have joined its efforts to evaluate therapeutics for COVID-19.
Welcoming the accelerated development and validation of tests to detect COVID-19 antibodies, he said this will contribute to helping the international community understand the extent of infection among the global population.
