Police stations across Maharashtra have been put on high alert ahead of the 201st anniversary of the Koregaon Bhima battle on January 1 next year. It marks the victory of the British army's Mahar regiment over the Peshwas. Since, thousands of people are expected to throng the village to take part in the celebration, officials have been keeping a close tab on the mood of the people in a bid to avoid any untoward incident like this year. Earlier this year, a massive violence took place on January 1 when lakhs of lower caste people gathered to celebrate the victory in the Koregaon Bhima battle.
