FDA 잠정승인 한국산 코로나 진단키트 수출... "PCR 시약 60만회분"

South Korea is sending kits designed to run 600-thousand coronavirus tests to the United States.
This follows a phone conversation between Presidents Moon and Trump last month during which the U.S. president made requests for South Korean testing apparatus.
That led to the FDA's interim approval of the kits.
Arirang News' Oh Jung-hee from Seoul's foreign affairs ministry.
More of South Korea's COVID-19 test kits are to be flown to the United States this week.
This follows a request from U.S. President Trump during his phone call with South Korean President Moon Jae-in last month.
"There was a phone conversation between the two presidents. The U.S. importing process is quite complicated regarding medical supplies,... and after that call, the two countries' health authorities and the companies had some thorough consultations."
In late March, three South Korean test kit-makers received an interim approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The U.S. has only given the test kits an interim approval as giving them an official approval is a lengthy process and there is an urgent need for more tests in the U.S.
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency signed contracts with all three test kit-makers and one of them has already shipped its products.
"The kits are polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, kits. Kits enabling 150-thousand tests were sent on April 10th... and the ones to be sent this time will enable 600-thousand coronavirus tests."
"The cargo plane carrying South Korean test kits is to leave for Louisville, Kentucky from Incheon International Airport early Wednesday morning. Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News."
