US No Longer Issuing Passports
Except for Emergencies The U.S. has stopped issuing
new passports unless it is a
"life-or-death emergency." In a statement on its website,
the State Department asked
Americans to avoid international travel
due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Emergencies that permit travel
include serious illnesses, injuries or
deaths in the immediate family. Applicants must require travel
outside of the U.S. within three days. They will also have to submit
"proof of the life-or-death emergency such as a death
certificate, a statement from a mortuary or a signed
letter from a hospital or medical professional." The move is one of the latest by the government in
an effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
