Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich said the coronavirus outbreak revealed the U.S. does not have a social safety net like other countries. According to Business Insider, he said the healthcare system is “as thin and inadequate as you can imagine.” Reich commented that healthcare workers are not getting the masks and protective gear they need. He said healthcare workers among other “essential workers” exposing themselves is “morally repugnant.” While Reich praised the unemployment part of the coronavirus bill, he said the rest gives big companies bailouts.
