Michele T: Some of the resources that help
00:09
me through the transition of nursing were,
00:14
one, the Internet.
00:15
I did a lot of online communities and kind of read up on things
00:20
to sustain milk supply and get through the tough time.
00:24
Michelle K: I like to be as prepared as possible for
00:27
anything that I venture into.
00:29
I needed to find as many resources as possible for breastfeeding
00:33
because I had no idea what I was doing.
00:35
The Breastfeeding Center was fantastic.
00:38
So much so that I have even with other friends who have
00:41
breastfed have been able to look up one in their
00:43
area and say, “Hey, go here.”
00:45
Michele T: We had a lactation consultant
00:49
group in our area that I called
00:51
and they actually made house calls.
00:53
She was able to be on call at any time that I had any other
00:57
issues or any other concerns moving forward.
01:00
Ekere Ekandem Olojala: The greatest resource for challenges,
01:03
especially participants in the WIC program, are our
01:05
breastfeeding peer counselors.
01:06
They are generally within the same peer group so that is why we
01:10
call them breastfeeding peer counselors.
01:12
They have experience.
01:13
They have breastfed their children for six months or longer so
01:17
they’re able to talk about the challenges that they had.
01:20
Patrice: I went to a midwife at a birthing center and the way
01:25
it was structured was at your last trimester of your pregnancy
01:27
was a group setting so your appointments you
01:31
were with other mothers.
01:32
You sat in a circle and for the most part we
01:35
talked about breastfeeding.
01:37
That was a very big component of what they do at the birthing
01:39
center.
01:40
Shaune: I have talked to my OB/GYN who gave me a lot of
01:43
resources in terms of how to breastfeed for twins.
01:46
My mom gave me a book on breastfeeding nursing for twins and
01:49
just kind of armed myself with the knowledge and decided to go
01:53
forward with it.
