AS INDIA REMAINS IN LOCKDOWN FOR 21 DAYS, ALL MEANS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE DELHI METRO RAIL CORPORATION HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE DELHI METRO WILL REMAIN SHUT THROUGHOUT THE LOCKDOWN TILL APRIL 14th. AFTER INSTANCES OF PANIC BUYING AND PEOPLE HOARDING ESSENTIAL ITEMS CAME TO LIGHT, DELHI CHIEF MINISTER ARVIND KEJRIWAL HAS ANNOUNCED THAT ALL GROCERY STORES IN DELHI WILL BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE 24X7 DURING THE 21-DAY NATIONWIDE LOCKDOWN TO HALT THE SPREAD OF THE COVID-19 VIRUS. THIS COMES AMID WIDESPREAD CONFUSION AND PANIC OVER AVAILABILITY OF FOOD DURING THE LOCKDOWN. DESPITE GOVT ANNOUNCEMENT THAT SHOPS SELLING GROCERIES, VEGETABLES AND MEDICINES HAD BEEN ALLOWED TO STAY OPEN, CONFUSION OVER THESE DETAILS LED TO A NUMBER OF SUCH SHOPS CLOSING OVER FEAR OF POLICE ACTION AND PEOPLE RUSHING TO STOCK UP. EVEN CONFUSION OVER E-COMMERCE FIRMS BEING ALLOWED TO DELIVER LED TO HUGE AMOUNTS OF FRESH PRODUCE - 15,000 LITRES OF MILK AND 10,000 KILOGRAMS OF VEGETABLES - BEING DUMPED, SOME FIRMS ALLEGED AND SOME OF THEM EVEN ALLEGED HARRASMENT BY COPS.
