Assam was among the states that were at the forefront of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in 2019. Now that the Bill has become an Act, protests still continue
unabated across the state. However, over time, many have accused anti-CAA protests in Assam of trying maintain an ethnic Assamese majority over the state's Bengali-speaking population.
