Inhabitants of the small city of Dietfurt an der Altmühl parade in "Chinese" costumes to celebrate Carnival, a tradition that's taken place in the small German town since the 1950s and is based on a loosely historical anecdote. Despite recent debates on "Blackface" displays at other carnivals in Europe, the Dietfurt carnival is not really controversial in the region. In recent years it has even attracted groups of Chinese tourists and the Chinese consul in Munich has visited it in the past.
