Maghi Amavasya or Mauni Amavasya happens on the Amavasya of the Krishna Paksha of Magha month. This time it is on 24 January. Bathing the Ganges on this day has great significance. It is believed that at this time the water of the Ganges is like nectar. After bathing in the Ganges, charity is performed and Lord Vishnu and the Peepal tree are worshiped. On the day of Mauni Amavasya, there is silence throughout the fast period. During the worship of Lord Vishnu, also worship the Peepal tree and circumambulate it. According to religious beliefs, Lord Vishnu resides in the root of Peepal, Shiva in the stem and Brahma in the foreground. Worship of Peepal leads to good luck and the house is filled with money.

माघी अमावस्या या मौनी अमावस्या माघ मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अमावस्या को होता है। इस बार यह 24 जनवरी को है। इस दिन गंगा स्नान करने का बड़ा ही महत्व है। मान्यता है कि इस समय गंगा का जल अमृत के समान होता है। गंगा स्नान के बाद दान पुण्य किया जाता है और भगवान विष्णु तथा पीपल के वृक्ष की पूजा की जाती है। मौनी अमावस्या के दिन पूरे व्रत काल में मौन रहा जाता है।भगवान विष्णु की पूजा के दौरान पीपल के वृक्ष की भी पूजा करें और उसकी परिक्रमा करें। धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, पीपल के जड़ में भगवान विष्णु, तने में शिवजी तथा अग्रभाग में ब्रह्माजी का वास होता है। पीपल की पूजा से सौभाग्य की वृद्धि होती है तथा घर धन-धान्य से भर जाता है ।
