Amid the massive protests in West Bengal over the Citizenship Amendment Act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarified the central government's stand on the law from Belur Math in Kolkata and attacked opposition leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, unnamed. PM Modi said that, this law is for granting citizenship and not for taking it. This law has not been made overnight but thoughtfully, but some political parties do not want to deliberate it.

नागरिकता संशोधन कानून को लेकर पश्चिम बंगाल में चल रहे भारी विरोध प्रदर्शनों के बीच प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने कोलकाता के बेलूर मठ से इस कानून को लेकर केंद्र सरकार का रुख स्‍पष्‍ट किया और बिना नाम लिए ममता बनर्जी सहित विपक्षी नेताओं पर जमकर निशाना साधा। पीएम मोदी ने कहा कि, ये कानून नागरिकता देने के लिए है, न कि लेने के लिए। इस कानून को रातों-रात नहीं बल्कि सोच विचार कर बनाया गया है, लेकिन कुछ राजनी‍तिक दल इसे जानबूझकर समझना नहीं चाहते हैं।
