Bharat Bandh was observed across the country on 8 January. Protesters in West Bengal torched vehicles and ransacked government buses, including a police van. The strike was near total in Left-ruled Kerala, with vehicles, including state-owned KSRTC and private buses keeping off the roads. The Chennai Police, meanwhile, detained protesters who were a part of the Bharat Bandh on Mount Road.
