A Hindu refugee from Pakistan, Dima is fighting a battle for education in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. The Board of Secondary Education in Rajasthan rejected her application. In 2018, Dima came to India from Pakistan’s Sindh. She started living in Anganwa refugee camp around 20km away from Jodhpur. Later, she got admission in 11th standard in a local school. But now, this year board refused to give her permission to sit in examinations as she is not eligible. However, the family had shown the migration certificate to the school. Dima’s father said, “We came here for the betterment of our children, if they can’t study, then what’s the point of living here.” On the other side, Convenor of Seemant Lok Sangathan, Hindu Singh Sodha said that in 2012, the Central government and Rajasthan government itself had issued a circular in favour of such students given their special circumstances.
