An under-construction high-rise tower in Malaysia's capital that caused panic online because it was said the building was collapsing is supposed to look that way, locals have confirmed.

According to local media, the WhatsApp message quickly went viral because it suggested the leaning tower, part of the mixed-use 8 Jalan Conlay development in Kuala Lumpur, was about to collapse.

But actually the building, which is only halfway complete, was designed to be curving and only appears to be leaning from certain angles.

The New Straits Times reports: "The tower is one of three skyscrapers comprising the 8 Jalan Conlay development, which features the five-star Kempinski luxury hotel, retail outlets, and the world’s tallest twin spiralled residential towers: YOO8 Tower A (68 storeys) and Tower B (57 storeys).

"Tower B – which will comprise luxury suites built by KSK Land and offer views of KLCC – features a unique curved design which appears to the uninitiated as dangerously tilted, especially in its current unfinished state."
