At the 15th annual West Virginia Economic Outlook Conference held in Charleston, the state's economic forecast was released and it doesn't look so good.

According to George Hammond, associate director of West Virginia University’s bureau of business and economic research, the state's unemployment rate is expected to rise from 4.9 percent to 6 percent, and the state will likely loose 4,800 jobs from 2008 to 2009. The construction, and mining and natural resource industries have been the hardest hit in West Virginia, due to the housing crisis and economic recession.
