Articles of Impeachment Are Approved
by Party Line, House Committee Vote.
By a 23 to 17 vote,
the House Judiciary Committee
approved the charges against
President Donald Trump.
The two articles of impeachment include
abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The charges relate to Trump's alleged use of
office in order to pressure the government
of Ukraine to open an investigation into
former vice president Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
Biden has emerged as the
leading contender for the
2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
The vote followed 14 hours of
highly partisan debate on Thursday.
The Democrat-controlled
House of Representatives is
expected to vote on the articles
of impeachment next week.
The articles will then move to the
Republican-controlled Senate for a vote.
In order for a president to
be removed from office,
both the House and Senate must
approve articles of impeachment
