Talk It,” has finally concluded, with the case
being dismissed in favor of the rap trio. .
The lawsuit began in October of 2018, when M.O.S. claimed
Migos ripped off his 2007 record, ‘Walk It Like I Talk It.”.
However, Judge Analisa Torres ruled that the
phrase “walk it like I talk it” is a common phrase,
meaning it isn’t susceptible to copyright protection. .
“Because songwriters must be free to borrow sayings and expressions
from popular culture, the Second Circuit and courts in this district have
found that short and commonplace phrases are not protectable…”

are the “only similarity” between the two works,
and are “not original” to M.O.S.
“The only similarity between the two works at issue, the lyrics
‘walk it like I talk it’, is not original to the author and is,
therefore, not protected by the copyright laws.”
