The proportion of births from multicultural families among total births in S. Korea hits record high in 2018

The proportion of births from multicultural families, among the total number of births in South Korea, reached a record-high for the first time last year.
According to Statistics Korea on Wednesday, while the number of children born in multicultural families decreased two percent in 2018 compared to a year earlier, its proportion in the country's overall births hit a record high of 5-point-5 percent.
Vietnamese mothers comprised more than one-third of births in multicultural families, while one-fifth were Chinese. Around 7 percent of births were from Philippine mothers.
The number of international marriages between a South Korean national and a foreigner last year also reached a record high in four years.
