Iran Announces Nuclear Deal
Violations 40 Years After Hostage Crisis.
The Middle East nation
announced that it will double the
number of advanced centrifuges
used to enrich uranium. .
Using such centrifuges will allow the
country to enrich uranium 10 times faster
than is allowed under the 2015 nuclear
agreement made between Iran and other nations.
Made by the head of Iran's
nuclear program, the announcement
came on the 40th anniversary
of the 1979 hostage crisis.
During the crisis, 52 Americans were
held hostage in the U.S. embassy in Tehran.
The embassy was overtaken in retaliation
for CIA involvement in Iran's 1953 coup.
Made up of citizens and diplomats,
the hostages were held for over a year.
President Donald Trump
withdrew the U.S. from the nuclear
plan in 2018, followed by significant
economic sanctions against Iran.
Negotiated in part between
the Obama administration and Iran,
the intention of the deal was to limit
