A rare lunar phenomenon called a "moon halo" occurred on the coast of Cornwall yesterday evening (October 13).

Time-lapse footage from St. Ives Bay shows clouds crossing the brightly lit moon, which is accompanied by a glowing ring around the satellite.

The filmer explained: "The phenomenon occurs when tiny ice crystals in thin clouds high up in the Earth's atmosphere split and reflect the light from the moon."
