Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester says indications are that the 'deeply distressing' stabbing attack at the Arndale attack on Friday was 'isolated' and related to a mental health issue. An increased police presence at the shopping centre today sought to reassure members of the public Manchester was 'open' and it was 'business as usual'. Mr Burnham has also encouraged police to increase their use of stop and search, which he attributed to a reduction in knife crime.
