President Moon Jae-in has asked Koreans living abroad,... to join his efforts in establishing peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
The President was speaking at an event Saturday to celebrate the 13th World Korean Day.
He asked the 7-and-a-half million Korean expats across the globe,... for their support in South Korea's joint bid with North Korea to co-host the 2032 Summer Olympics.
"Just as our national flag united us 100 years ago, I ask that our compatriots join us in efforts to achieve peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula. Like your sincere efforts that led to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics being successfully hosted as a 'peace Olympics,' and I hope you will help make the 2032 Seoul-Pyeongyang Olympics happen as well."
President Moon also promised to better ensure the safety and protect the rights of Korean residents living abroad.
"For the first time, we have selected consuls specialized in handling issues and incidents and they have been placed in 32 diplomatic offices across 28 countries in 2018. As of September, 117 personnel are working in 84 offices, and we plan to continue increasing that number."
He stressed the importance of their role in shaping the next one hundred years of Korea's future,... just as their patriotism and sacrifice helped the country achieve great things in the past century.
Saying that the right way to repay their efforts is to make South Korea a country to be proud of,... President Moon vowed to strengthen Korea's foundation -- building an unshakeable and dependable country where everyone can co-prosper.
