In a scene out of an action film, two men wearing animal masks robbed jewels worth nearly two million US dollars from a showroom in south India.

The men gained entry into the Lalithaa jewellery showroom in Tiruchirappalli by drilling through a side wall in the early hours of October 2.

Covering their faces with tiger and bull masks the robbers stole nearly 800 jewels weighing about 30 kg.

CCTV visuals from inside the store showed two masked men entering the ground floor which houses the gold and diamond’s section and deftly removing the ornaments from the shelves.

The robbers spent nearly 90 minutes inside the store despite six nightwatchmen guarding the showroom.

“Diamond, gold and platinum jewellery worth 13 crore rupees were stolen from the store,” Kiran Kumar, one of the owners of the shop, said.
