US Will Impose
Tariffs on $7.5 Billion
of EU Imports The World Trade Organization (WTO)
has authorized the U.S. tariffs of up
to 100% on goods from the E.U. The WTO decision
ends a 15-year battle over
E.U. subsidies to the Belgian
company Airbus. The E.U. has a similar
case levied against
the U.S. over its
subsidies to Boeing. The decision is the
largest arbitration award
ever issued by the WTO. The U.S. has already
earmarked more than $20 billion
worth of E.U. goods for tariffs. The E.U. in turn has earmarked
a similar amount of U.S. goods for
tariffs in relation to its own case
against the U.S. concerning Boeing. Cecilia Malmstrom, EU Trade Commissioner,
via 'The Wall Street Journal' Airbus has warned officials in
Washington and Brussels that
tariffs from either side would
"severely impact" the airline industry.
