WASHINGTON — Keeping the presidential family safe comes at a price for all taxpayers but should jet skis be included in that cost?
The Secret Service has formally requested the purchase of two Kawasaki jet skis and one dual trailer to better protect President Donald Trump's family when they participate in water sports.
Citing the request, NBC Washington states the first family spends "several weeks throughout the year" at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, and at the Hamptons in New York.
NBC News was the first to highlight that Secret Service agents had been using their own personal funds to rent jet skis in order to be closer to the first family during watersport activities.
The Secret Service said it needed 4-stroke, 4-cylinder 1498cc watercraft capable of carrying a maximum weight of 900 pounds. According to NBC Washington, models meeting that criteria start at around $10,000 each.
According to NBC News, the jet skis will be stored at the Secret Service's training center in Beltsville, Maryland.
