The U.S. has confirmed the end of peace negotiations with the Taliban... but will keep pressuring the Taliban for significant commitments.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made the announcement on CNN and Fox News on Sunday local time.
Earlier on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced that he had cancelled peace talks with the Taliban's "major leaders."
The cancellation came after the Taliban took credit for an attack in Afghanistan that killed a dozen people, including an American soldier.
The Taliban, in response, said Trump's decision would lead to more fresh losses of American lives in Afghanistan.
