Pitru paksha is the ideal time designated by the Hindu Shastras to offer Tarpanto the departed ancestors in a family. It is said that the ancestors residing in the Pitruloka are permitted to visit the earth especially during the Pitru Paksha in a year to accept the oblations given by their descendants.

पितरों को समर्पित अश्विन मास की भाद्रपद पूर्णिमा से अश्विन माह की अमावस्या तक इसे मनाया जाता है। 16 दिनों के लिए पितृ घर में विराजमान होते है जोकि हमारे वंश का कल्याण करते है। बता दें कि इन दिनों ना तो कोई शुभ कार्य किया जाता है और ना ही कोई नई चीजें घर पर लाई जाती हैं। इस बार पितृ पक्ष 13 सितंबर से शुरु हो रहे है जोकि 28 सितंबर को सर्वपितृ अमावस्या के साथ समाप्त होगे।
