MANILA - A deputy chief of the Philippine National Police on Monday said no one, including members of the PNP, is allowed to beat up persons suspected of committing a crime. Deputy Director General Felipe Rojas Jr., PNP deputy chief for administration, gave his opinion following reports on the mauling incident involving actor/comedian Vhong Navarro last week. Rojas said police can arrest any person who beats up a crime suspect . He said police officers at a Taguig precinct could have arrested Navarro's assailants if the actor had told authorities that he was beaten up. Navarro earlier revealed that he was beaten up by 6-7 men inside a condo unit at The Fort, Taguig last Wednesday, January 22. He said the men, including a certain Cedric Cua Lee, beat him and tried to extort P1 million from him for allegedly trying to rape Navarro's female friend. Navarro identified the friend as Deniece Millet Cornejo. The actor said the group brought him to a police station where he was accused of trying to rape Cornejo. Navarro denied being a rapist, saying the incident was a setup. RADIO DZMM, January 27, 2014
