MANILA, Philippines – The lawyers of Sarangani Congressman and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao say the tax lien placed by the U.S. tax bureau is in the process of being released. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had filed a lien on the fighting congressman’s properties and bank accounts to cover an alleged $18-million tax deficiency between 2006 and 2010. But Pacquiao’s camp says the figure is inaccurate and that the boxer is serious about his tax obligations and will work with the IRS to resolve everything. This isn’t the only tax battle for Pacquiao. In the Philippines, the Bureau of Internal Revenue garnished his bank accounts due to a P2-2-billion tax liability. News Now, ANC, December 29, 2013.
