MANILA - The Philippine National Police has deployed more than 400 men to Tacloban City to ensure peace and order in the aftermath of super typhoon "Yolanda." In an interview on ANC's Headstart, PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Reuben Sindac said dozens of policemen are travelling by air and land to Tacloban and Eastern Samar. He said local police officers in the typhoon-hit areas were also victims of "Yolanda." "We don't know the casualty situation of our own police force in the area so our leadership under police Director General Alan Purisima thought it best to get other PNP personnel from the regions that were not affected," he said. He said at least 120 police officers from Cagayan Valley are going to Tacloban via commercial flights to help restore peace and order in the area. He said another 100 police officers from Bicol will be going to Eastern Samar by land. Sindac said it is up to political leaders and not the police force to decide on the proposal to impose martial law in Tacloban as survivors turn to looting. "As of now, we are performing our duties. It is a law enforcement situation. Martial law will definitely change the environment," he said. MORNINGS@ANC, November 11, 2013
