CANADA - The Philippines' most popular means of public transportation, also known as the king of the road, has made its way across the pacific. Automotive dealership owners, Larry and Tova Vickar, paved the way for bringing the jeepney to Winnipeg after years of dealing with Pinoy clients. Known for its colorful decoration, the Vickars' jeepney stays true to what has become a symbol of Philippine culture with an added feature, also known as a Pinoy favorite. "I have put in a $10,000 sound system and a karaoke machine. The karaoke machine, if it didn't have its genesis in the Philippines, it was close to the Philippines and so many friends I knew like karaoke," said Larry. Since 2011, the jeepney has become the center of attraction to many Filipino celebrations in Winnipeg. The Vickars are more than happy to share their jeepney with those who want a trip down memory lane. The jeepney has long been a symbol of Philippine culture, ingenuity and creativity. Thanks to kababayans, the symbol remains alive for the big Filipino community in Winnipeg.
