MANILA, Philippines – Thomas Bach of Germany has been elected president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), making him only the ninth president in the body’s 119-year history. Bach succeeded Belgium’s Jacques Roggue, who stepped down after 12 years at the helm. Bach, a firm favorite in a choice of six candidates, secured victory in the second round of voting. An Olympic champion at the 1976 Games, Bach is a multi-lingual German and was the founding president of his country’s Olympic sports federation. -- Mornings @ ANC, September 11, 2013
