MANILA – Businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, who faces charges of serious illegal detention, surrendered to President Aquino in Malacañang at about 9:30 PM last night. Early yesterday afternoon, her camp sent the Palace feelers on her desire to turn herself in. Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda was a former colleague of Napoles’ lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, and it was through him that Napoles’ surrender was arranged. Upon her surrender, Napoles was turned over to DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and she was brought to Camp Crame where she underwent booking and finger-printing. Her mug shots were also taken. The Makati Regional Trial Court is expected to take cognizance of Napoles; surrender. It will be up to the court to decide on the custody of Napoles. Kapunan: No idea where Napoles was hiding Meanwhile, Kapunan said she did not know where Napoles was hiding prior to her surrender. Kapunan said Napoles surrendered only after President Aquino offered a P10 million reward for information elading to her arrest. She said Napoles felt her life was in danger. Kapunan said Napoles’ brother, Reynald Lim, will surrender soon. “We don’t know where she came from except that when there was a reward this morning, her life is in danger. There are people who keep her silent permanently. Now was the right time, sabi nya wala siya tinatago at now that there's investigation headed by Justice Carpio. We believe the truth will come out,” she said. “She is safe, reunited with her family and hopefully all these rumors leaving the country with her 3 yachts... there is no airplane, no submarine, she is not surrounded by heavily armed bodyguards.
