Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Bristol for a so-called 'Stop the Coup' rally.

The protest is just one of several going on around the UK, against Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to prorogue, or suspend, parliament.

Proroguing parliament is a common practice but its unusual length and timing -- so close to the date at which the UK is set to leave the EU -- is seen by protesters as a tactic to stop MPs preventing a so-called 'no deal' Brexit.
