Seoul's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called in the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea,... and asked Washington NOT to express concerns over Seoul's decision to pull out from the General Security of Military Information Agreement it signed in 2016 with Japan.
First Vice Foreign Minister Cho Sei-young sat down with U.S. Ambassador Harry Harris on Wednesday to deliver Seoul's complaint.
The ministry said Cho emphasized the decision had nothing to do with the bilateral security alliance between South Korea and the U.S.
While it's rare for South Korea to make public complaints to the U.S. ambassador, the move comes at a time when Washington has repeatedly expressed a deep sense of regret over Seoul's decision.
